Nylon vient de la phrase «Now You Loose Old Nippon.» Cela référait au nylon comme remplaçant de la soie.

My Petit Robert says it's most probally from (vi)nyl et (cott)on/(ray)on, which makes a thousand more sense. =)

I got that on a book testing your knowledge... and I find mine much more interesting =P
